Something Stupid

Life is for living, and sometimes risks and stands need to be taken. Of course, on the internet, stands can be taken for you (and on you). While is why I’ve come to praise Ronald and I’ve decided to join him.

Roland Bunce is a is a Belfast based, 24-year-old computing science graduate and for some reason he entered Next’s model competition. Ronald is, er, not exactly classically handsome. He isn’t a sick thin model, he doesn’t look like the pretty boy who would wear skinny jeans, ironic glasses and a stylish shirt. I think he might wear an ironic or at least cool t-shirt. More to the point, neither am I. neither is most of the population. And Ronald has a posse!

In the same way that thanks to an internet vote, the Wolf Tones sang the UK’s most loved single, Ronald has a fan base on Facebook who want him to win.

Yes I voted for him, and I even entered too.

Why?

Well I’m not a model. I do however like Next. I’ve been treated well in the shops (say thanks to Amy in Mahon Point if you’re in there) and I’ve picked up the odd item. Its only the odd item because very little in there fits me. I’m a big lad. Tops, too small. Bottoms, too small. Shoes, too small (seriously). Hats, I’ll get back to you.

I’d like next to see, um, plus sized male punters wanting to buy. To help, how about fewer skimmed-Milquetoast models? Having said that, the internet vote is really meant to thin the field a bit. According to the Guardian, and the contest guidelines: “The online public vote is to merely select a top 250 hopefuls, who are then whittled down to 50 by a “panel of judges”, before two winners are selected from that shortlist.”
But popular opinion might get the buyers and the decision makers to notice, even if the model agents don’t.

So vote for me. Vote for Ronald. Vote big.
